An excellent ride around Gt Knoutberry hill, starting and finishing in Sedbergh.
After meeting at the Duo Cafe in Sedbergh we followed a track over Garsdale Beck, Bank Lane and a track to Garsdale Foot. We then headed up Garsdale before turning right up the road past Garsdale Station, a steep climb. We stopped for lunch on the Coal Pits track before skirting Great Knoutberry Hill. We followed the track down to Newby Head before descending to Dent Village for tea and cakes (in my case, a bowl of chips!) We then turned off right through Gawthrop and followed Dentdale back to Sedbergh.

I received this mini woodburner with a subscription to TGO. Very well made and designed by Bob at backpackinglight.co.uk. It was certainly fun to use, but the wood was damp and the wind was very strong. Managed to start it on bark and tiny twigs though, despite the conditions. Need to use it again on a better day to evaluate its usefulness.
An idea of my brother’s. Works well too. Could use a brolly as the cross brace if needed. No extra weight then. Need an internal frame sack tho, so won’t work with my golite jam.
Having just purchased a new tarp, I thought I’d have a play in the garden
I purchased this sea to summit pack cover, size small from TK Max, a bargain at £6.99, I thought. Here is a pic of it over a golite Jam. A snug fit, but that’ll help to stop it filling with wind
Yet another configuration of the Golite ponch tarp
- Looks like thunder!
Yesterday, Sunday 10th June. Alistair and I had a wander from the top of the road running up through Masongill. We parked the car as the metalled road turns into a rough track. This is known as Turbary road, and leads past a fine set of open potholes. We stopped after a mile or so to cook lunch and brew up. I put my Luxe mini peak 2 up while Alistair played around with different tarp configurations. the sun shone and we both laughed as he tried to improve his pitch with his Golite poncho tarp.
After a while we headed up to the top of Gragareth.. The view northwards was rather black and looked like it may thunder. We then dropped back down steeply towards Yordas Pot and cave and back to the car on Turbary Road
